The close-knit community of Vierzon is located in the middle region of central France on the banks of the Cher River, just over 30 kilometers northwest of Bourges. Today, the area draws its livelihood mainly from forestry, industry and farming, but it is also a great place to stop on a car trip through the region!
Settlement in Vierzon has been steady since the 10th century when a Benedictine monastery was constructed here. Today, the relics of St. Perpetua they brought with them can be seen in the charming 19th century church of Notre-Dame de Vierzon. Also of note, a church can be found here that dates all the way back to the 12th century, while the 18th century Château de La Noue and the 15th century Château de Chaillot are sure to delight any visitor. Finally, the Manorhouse de La Gaillardière is a wonderful place to visit and should be part of any visit here. |
