The impressive town of Vitry Le François is located in the Champagne-Ardenne region of northeastern France on the banks of the Marne River, and it is also the place where the Marne-Rhine Canal ends. The town is situated on the site of an impressive ancient fortress that was dismantled in the 12th century, but the rich history and other attractions located here makes it a popular tourist destination today nonetheless.
While visiting Vitry Le François, be sure to take the time to observe the stunning 17th and 18th century architecture that dominates much of the town, including the Notre-Dame collegiate church with its imposing façade, and the magnificent fountain located in the Place d’Armes square. In addition, be certain to check out the charming La Chapelle Saint-Nicolas lower village, as well as the historic gate bridge, which was at one time the only way to enter Vitry Le François. |
