The charming town of Voreppe can be found in the scenic Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France, just 15 kilometers northwest of Grenoble in the Isere River Valley near an arm of the Chartreuse Mountains. The town itself lies in a scenic gorge and the entire area is part of the Regional Park of Chartreuse, which boasts a number of excellent hiking trails and more than 1400 hectares of community forest.
Voreppe is often called the “gateway to the Alps,” so be sure to reserve a rental car for your visit, in order to enjoy easy access to the gorgeous surrounding countryside. In addition, the site has been inhabited since the 2nd century, as evidenced by the ancient coins and Gallic tombs that were found in a nearby cave. Also of note, the 12th century, Romanesque-style Chalais Abbey and Church sits perched high above the town, providing excellent views. |
